David City, Nebraska
David City is the county seat of Butler County, Nebraska, and the county's largest community, with a population of approximately 2,995 (2020). History
David City was founded in 1873 to serve as the county seat after residents sought a more centrally located seat of government than the original town of Savannah. The city's name origin is debated: the official account credits Phoebe Davids Miles, who deeded the land on which the Butler County Courthouse now sits, while other theories point to Nebraska Governor David Butler or a relative of William Miles. Notable figures with ties to David City include Joyce C. Hall, founder of Hallmark Cards; singer Ruth Etting; longtime U.S. Senator Roman Hruska; and Shon Hopwood, a bank robber turned law professor.
