Rising City is a village in Reading Township, Butler County, Nebraska. With a population of approximately 356 (2020), Rising City is one of the larger villages in western Butler County.
History
Rising City was established in 1878 when the Omaha and Republican Valley Railway was extended to that point. The village was named for A. W. and S. W. Rising, the original proprietors of the town site. Rising City is the hometown of Cliff Hillegass, founder of CliffsNotes study guides, and Walter Judd, a longtime U.S. Representative.
