About Papillion
Papillion is the county seat of Sarpy County and a suburb of Omaha. The 2020 census counted 24,159 residents, making it the seventh most populous city in Nebraska, up from 18,894 in 2010. The city covers 12.27 square miles, of which 11.99 is land. Its elevation is 1,032 feet. Nebraska Highway 85 runs through the city.
History
The townsite was platted on 31 October 1870 by the Beadle brothers on their own land, after the railroad was extended to the point. The name comes from Papillion Creek; the spelling is a corruption of the French word papillon, meaning butterfly. In an 1875 election Papillion beat Bellevue and Sarpy Center for the county seat, and a courthouse was dedicated on 3 July 1875. The town incorporated in 1883.

Werner Park opened in 2011 and is the home ground of the Omaha Storm Chasers, a Triple-A baseball club. Halleck Park is the main city park. Meta Platforms operates several data centres in Papillion. The Papillion-La Vista Public School District serves the city.
