Cedar Creek, Nebraska
Cedar Creek is a village in Cass County, Nebraska, with a population of 465 at the 2020 census. The area was settled in 1861 and platted in 1865, taking its name from the cedar trees along the banks of nearby Cedar Creek.
History
The town was founded by Swiss immigrant John Inhelder and was briefly known as "Inhelder Station" until the U.S. Postal Service fixed the name as Cedar Creek in 1872. It remained largely a "paper town" until the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad arrived in 1870, spurring real growth. Cedar Creek was once home to the Cedar Creek Roller Mill, a stone quarry, two banks, and Ault’s General Store, which was run by the same family for close to a century. In 2007, a descendant of an early founding family donated land back to the village. Cedar Creek carries the local motto "The Land of Lakes."
