Rockville is a village in Sherman County, in central Nebraska. The 2020 census counted 89 residents, down from 106 in 2010 and 111 in 2000. The village covers about 0.22 square miles. Ravenna lies roughly 7 miles south-west, Howard City about 6 miles south-east, Ashton about 9 miles north and Loup City about 12 miles north-west.
History
Rockville was platted in 1886, when the Union Pacific Railroad was extended to that point, and the name was taken from Rock Creek. One reference work lists a post office opening at Rockville in 1873, which would predate the platting; the sources consulted do not reconcile the two dates.
Today
The village is among the smaller communities in Sherman County. The 2010 census counted 52 households and a median age of 45 years, with roughly a quarter of residents aged 65 or older. Ley Street runs through the village centre.
