Boelus Nebraska 68820

Boelus is a village in Howard County, Nebraska, established in 1885 as "Howard City" once the extension of the railroad to the area became certain. The name was later changed to Boelus; the origin is disputed, with some sources tracing it to the Belus River and others to a blend of the surnames Boesen and Larson.

The one-room Boesen School (District 28) operated in the community from 1877 to 1953. The 2010 census recorded 189 residents, down from 221 in 2000. Nebraska state legislator Lowen Kruse is associated with the town.
