About Goehner
Goehner is a village in Seward County, part of the Lincoln metropolitan area. The population was 181 at the 2020 census, up from 154 in 2010. The village covers about 0.17 square miles. A five-member board of trustees governs the village and meets the first Tuesday of each month at the fire hall.
History
The town was platted in 1887, when the North Western Railroad built through this part of Seward County. It is named for John F. Goehner, a local businessman and politician. Goehner incorporated as a village in 1913.
Seward County Historical Society Museum
The Seward County Historical Society keeps a six-acre museum grounds at Goehner. The main building holds county artefacts, and the grounds include a one-room schoolhouse from 1915 and a restored 1901 farmhouse. Among the collections is the flag displayed at Seward's first Fourth of July celebration in 1868. The Chippewa Northern Rail Company runs one-inch scale steam and battery powered locomotives on the grounds, with rides on the second and fourth Sundays from June through October. The museum is open Thursdays and Sundays, May through October.
