Cordova was platted in 1887 as the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad extended to the site, originally named “Hunkins” for pioneer Benjamin Hunkins before being renamed for Córdoba, Spain to avoid a duplicate post-office name.
The smallest of Seward County's ten municipalities, Cordova had a 2020 population of 92.
