This log building once stood at Willow Island, on the south side of the Platte River about 6 miles southeast of today's Cozad, where it served the stage line and the Pony Express. Riders Billy Campbell and Melville Baughn carried the mail on this section. In 1936 American Legion Post 77 bought the cabin for $75, took it apart log by log and rebuilt it in Cozad's city park, where it was dedicated in 1938.
Visiting: the station stands in Veterans Memorial Park, 201 E. 9th St., Cozad, with interpretive signs, restrooms, picnic tables and a shelter, and a playground. The park is free.
Information: Cozad Area Chamber of Commerce, 308-784-3930.
