About Brandon
Brandon is an unincorporated community in Perkins County, in south-western Nebraska. It stands in Lisbon precinct. Grant, the county seat, is about ten miles to the north-east, and Venango about seven miles to the west-south-west.
History
Brandon got its start when the Burlington railroad was extended to that point. An 1890 business gazetteer describes it as a station on the Cheyenne branch of the B. and M. railroad, eight and a half miles east of the Colorado line, and notes that it had recently been established as a post office. The postal facility was established in 1890.
The name
Where the name came from is not certain. It may have been the name of a railroad official, or it may have been taken from a place in Ohio. Nebraska Place Names, compiled in 1925, gave both possibilities and settled on neither. Both explanations are still repeated.
