Superior is a city of about 1,800 people in Nuckolls County, right against the Kansas line in southern Nebraska. State Highways 14 and 8 meet here. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe built a branch line to Superior in 1887; that route is part of BNSF today.

The town leans on its Victorian building stock. The downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and Superior bills itself the Victorian Capital of Nebraska. Its annual festival honors Evelene Brodstone, who grew up here, rose through the Vestey business and became Lady Vestey; the Kendall House of 1898 opens for tours during the event. The Nuckolls County Museum runs a ten building complex holding American Indian artifacts, military displays, material on Lady Vestey and what it describes as the largest model airplane collection in the state.

Farming, cattle feeding, a grain elevator and light manufacturing carry the local economy, along with Brodstone Memorial Hospital. The city keeps more than forty acres of parks, with camping and electrical hookups, a swimming pool, courts and a disc golf course centered on Lincoln Park, and it runs its own utilities. Population has eased down over two decades, from 2,055 in 2000 to 1,957 in 2010 and 1,825 in 2020.
