Superior is Nuckolls County's largest community, with about 1,825 residents, platted in 1875 by 21-year-old William Loudon along the Republican River. Known as the ‘Victorian Capital of Nebraska,’ Superior celebrates its heritage each year with a Victorian Festival, and its downtown historic district, City Hall and Auditorium, and the 1898 Kendall House are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Superior native Evelene Brodstone, raised in town from age three, became one of the highest-paid female business executives of the 1920s and later married into British nobility as Lady Vestey; she and her brother funded a local hospital with a dedication plaque written by Willa Cather. The town was also the first professional stop for Hall-of-Fame pitcher Jim Kaat.

Superior, Nuckolls County's largest town at about 1,825 residents, is known as the ‘Victorian Capital of Nebraska’ for its well-preserved historic downtown.
