About Oliver
Oliver is a former Union Pacific station in the Lodgepole Creek valley of Kimball County, on US 30 about 7 miles west of Kimball and 5 miles east of Bushnell.
History
Oliver was named for Oliver Ames, the Union Pacific official who was the railroad's president from 1866 to 1871. It appears as a station on the 1912 county map, and the Geological Survey still lists it as a place on the railroad. Oliver Reservoir, an irrigation lake on Lodgepole Creek just west, shares the name; it is now a South Platte NRD recreation area. Half a mile east, Patrick Maginnis built his steel irrigation flume over the creek in 1912.
