About Rockford
Rockford is an unincorporated community in Gage County, in south-eastern Nebraska. It has no separate village government and no separately reported population. Reference sources place it at about 1,339 feet above sea level. It lies in Rockford Township, one of twenty-four townships in Gage County; the township recorded 285 residents at the 2020 census, and its north-west corner sits at the geographic centre of the county. Beatrice is the county seat.
History
The Gage County Historical Society records that Rockford was founded by William Girl in 1858 and named for the rock quarries near Mud Creek. The society lists it among four unincorporated towns in the county, alongside Ellis, Holmesville and Lanham.
