Blue Springs takes its name from local springs along the Big Blue River long believed by Native Americans to have medicinal properties; a post office was established there in 1861. Historical remains of a dam and small hydroelectric plant sit below the Broad Street bridge, and the local cemetery is considered the oldest recorded cemetery in Gage County.

A small Big Blue River town named for its historic mineral springs.
