About Odell
Odell is a village in the south-west corner of Gage County, in south-eastern Nebraska. It covers about 0.26 square miles at an elevation of roughly 1,300 feet. The 2020 census counted 260 residents, down from 307 in 2010 and 345 in 2000. Wymore lies about eight miles to the north-east and Beatrice about fifteen miles to the north.
History
The area was formerly part of a ten by twenty five mile Otoe Indian Reservation. Odell itself was laid out in 1880, when the railroad was extended to that point, and a post office opened the same year. The village was named for LeGrand Odell, an original owner of the town site. A 1925 survey of Nebraska place names describes him as Le Grand Odell of Chicago and gives the same founding year.
