History Nebraska marker No. 411, at Columbia Hall on NE 58 in Dannebrog, tells how a colony of the Danish Land and Homestead Company from Milwaukee, led by Lars Hannibal, settled on Oak Creek in 1871 and named the town for the Danish flag; how Dannebrog lost the county seat to St. Paul in 1874, revived when the railroad came in 1885 and incorporated in 1886; and how the Legislature proclaimed it Nebraska's Danish Capital in 1989.
