About Factoryville
Factoryville is a former town on Weeping Water Creek in southeastern Cass County, about 2.5 miles south-southeast of Nehawka and 2.6 miles west-southwest of Union. The map point is approximate.
History
Factoryville was founded in the late 1850s on Weeping Water Creek; Rev. George Jennings is credited with founding it, and Isaac Pollard Jr. of Nehawka chose the name. An early woolen mill failed, but a flour mill ran here, and the post office opened in 1868. It was called Union Mills from 1873 to 1880, and the post office closed in 1887. Once the Missouri Pacific stations at Avoca, Nehawka and Union drew its trade away, the town was empty by the 1890s.
