Riverdale is a village in Buffalo County, in south-central Nebraska, part of the Kearney Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the village had a population of 247 residents.
History
Riverdale was laid out in 1890 when the Kearney and Black Hills Railway was extended to that point. The village takes its name from its scenic setting in the valley of the Platte River, which continues to define its character today.

Riverdale sits at approximately 40.784°N, 99.161°W, at an elevation of 2,182 feet. The village covers just 0.26 square miles, all land, in the Platte River valley of eastern Buffalo County. Kearney, the county seat, lies a short distance to the west.

Riverdale’s population has fluctuated over the past two decades — 213 in 2000, dipping to 182 in 2010, then rising to 247 in 2020. As of the 2010 census, the median age was 37.6 years, and roughly two-thirds of households were married couples, reflecting the village’s small, close-knit character.
