About Webster

Webster is a crossroads community at NE 79 and County Road K in central Dodge County, about 7 miles south of Snyder and 9 miles north of North Bend. The Webster historical marker stands at the corner. (It is not in Webster Township, which is in the county's northwest corner.)

History

From 1871 the hamlet grew to include a post office, blacksmith shop, telephone company, store, school and Webster Hall, used for farmers' meetings, socials, school programs and, from 1915 to 1918, a high school. The post office ran from 1871 to 1902 and was the end of the mail route from Fremont. In 1928 Webster had a community hall, a blacksmith shop, a telephone office, a store and four homes.

Most businesses closed in the 1950s, and the district school, formed when seven country schools merged, closed in 1999.
