About Ridgeley
Ridgeley is a rural township in central Dodge County, about 6 miles south-southwest of Scribner. St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church, 1140 County Road K, and its cemetery are the landmarks.
History
Frank M. Tillman made the first settlement in June 1868, and a post office opened that year with A. Holbrook as postmaster. Around 1885 it was kept in H. L. Shomsher's country store, with mail three times a week on the Fremont–Webster route; it closed in the 1890s. Ridgeley became a separate township in 1886, and the township's farmers organized the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company in 1885.
German Lutherans organized St. John's in 1874 and built churches in 1879 and 1893. A fire in November 1993 destroyed the church, and the present building was dedicated in December 1994.
