About Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley is a former post office and store hamlet in Pleasant Valley Township, on the western edge of Dodge County, about 3 miles west of Webster. Its site is estimated from section descriptions. The Pleasant Valley Cemetery and, to the north, the Glencoe Cemetery remain.
History
James Ferguson is believed to have been the first permanent settler, in the fall of 1868, and a Scottish colony of Fergusons followed; Germans settled the northeast part of the township in 1870. The Pleasant Valley post office opened in 1871 with Matthew Stubbert as postmaster and later moved to John Emanuel's general store. In 1890 the hamlet had about 25 people and three blacksmiths. The post office was gone by 1920.
To the northwest, the Glencoe post office ran from 1871 to 1896 under James Glenn; the Glencoe Cemetery keeps an 1896 Civil War monument.
