Friend is a city in Saline County, Nebraska, named for Charles E. Friend, who homesteaded the land and initially called the community "Friendville." The Burlington & Missouri River Railroad renamed its station there "Friend" in 1873.
Home to 954 residents at the 2020 Census, Friend was the birthplace of the National Greyhound Association in 1906, and its police department was once featured in "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" as the world's smallest police station.
