Farwell is a village in Howard County, Nebraska, founded in 1887 by Polish settlers as "Posen." In 1889, Danish settlers who had since arrived found the name objectionable and had it changed to "Farwell" — meaning "good-bye" in Danish. The village was incorporated in 1895, and its bicultural Polish-and-Danish heritage is reflected to this day in its Scandinavian name and Polish founding roots.

The 2020 census recorded 138 residents. Farwell's motto is "Preserving The Past And Promoting The Future."

Farwell, founded in 1887 by Polish settlers as "Posen" and renamed by later Danish settlers to the Danish word for "good-bye," is a small Howard County village with about 138 residents (2020 census) and a distinctly bicultural heritage.
