Lushton is York County's smallest incorporated place, with a 2020 Census population of just 28 — down slowly from 33 in 2000. It was platted in 1887 when the Kansas City and Omaha Railroad reached the site and named for a railroad official surnamed Lushton. A post office operated in the village from 1887 until it closed in 1965, after which Lushton came to share postal service with a neighboring community.
With 36.7% of residents 65 or older as of the 2010 census and a median age of 51, Lushton is a strongly aging, tiny rural village. Documented history beyond its founding is thin, which fits its size — there simply isn't much more to record.
