About Marion
Marion is an unincorporated community on NE 89 and the Beaver Creek rail line in southern Red Willow County, about a mile north of the Kansas line and 4 miles west-southwest of Danbury.
History
Marion Powell and Martin Nielson, partners in what was called the largest hog ranch in the world, started the town in 1901 as a closer shipping point on the Burlington branch, and every lot contract kept the town "forever dry." The railroad named it for Powell's first name because a Powell township already existed. The post office opened on January 15, 1902, and closed in 1953. Marion had a school, at one time with a high school, and a grain elevator, but it was never incorporated. Bess Furman's grandparents lived here.
