Angora was established in 1900 by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad as a rail siding town in northern Morrill County, with a post office established in 1901. It was also historically known by the alternate name "Antelope Hill." Its name is thought to follow the era's common practice of naming small depot towns after distant, exotic-sounding places, in this case Angora (Ankara), Turkey.
