Gandy Nebraska 69163

Gandy was founded in 1885 when its site was chosen in a July election that also made it Logan County's first county seat. Founder Jim Gandy donated the townsite land on condition that it bear his name. The town grew quickly, gaining a newspaper (the Logan County Pioneer) in 1885, a bank in 1886, two livery stables, and a courthouse by 1887, making it the county's first and largest town.

Gandy is an incorporated village with a 2020 Census population of 34, essentially unchanged from 32 in 2010 — notably stable for such a small Sandhills village. It lost its status as county seat when the Union Pacific Railroad bypassed it in favor of the newer town of Stapleton. Gandy has no post office of its own and shares Stapleton's 69163 ZIP code. It is now primarily a residential village, a quiet remnant of its earlier run as Logan County's original commercial and government center.
