O'Neill was proclaimed the Irish Capital of Nebraska by Governor Norbert Tiemann in 1969. Its week-long St. Patrick's Day celebration ends the weekend before St. Patrick's Day, and the 2026 parade was held on Saturday, March 14.
Recent celebrations included a Mr. Irish contest, the Irish Walk of Fame, the painting of the World's Largest Shamrock, the greening of the pond, a 1 p.m. parade and Leapfest. The Chamber, the Fenian Women's Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club take part.
