Description

The Oak Ballroom, 175 Higgins Dr. in the city park in Schuyler, was built by the Works Progress Administration in 1935–37 to designs by Emiel Christensen of Columbus, from native oak timbers and stone salvaged from a burned local mill. It opened in May 1937 with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra. The hall has a 5,000-square-foot dance floor and a wagon-train mural over the fireplace. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and is used for weddings, proms and polka dances.
