This is one of the best-preserved stretches of the original Lincoln Highway in the country: about 3 miles of red brick laid on a concrete base between March and July 1920, two 8-foot lanes wide. It carried coast-to-coast traffic between Omaha and Elkhorn until 1930, when the highway was moved to the new route through Blair, and it has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1987 (expanded to its full length in 2003). A History Nebraska marker placed in 2013 stands about 0.4 mile east of 192nd Street, and reproduction Lincoln Highway markers line the road.
Visiting: from West Dodge Road, exit at 168th Street, go west on Burt Plaza and north onto Old Lincoln Highway (174th Street); the west end meets 192nd Street. The road is closed to traffic in winter to protect the bricks and has a 6-ton weight limit, so check before you go. Drive slowly; the bricks are original.
