Description

This Nebraska State Historical Society marker on 1st Street south of Stutsman Street (US 159) in Rulo recalls the Lewis and Clark expedition's camp near the mouth of the Big Nemaha River on July 12, 1804. William Clark walked up the Nemaha and noted mounds, and Pvt. Alexander Willard was court-martialed for sleeping on guard. A second marker, placed by the City of Rulo in 1939, stands at Stutsman and 1st Streets.
