Description

About 3 miles west of Bridgeport, Henry T. Clarke built a 2,000-foot wooden toll bridge across the North Platte in 1875–76 to carry freight and gold seekers on the Sidney–Black Hills Trail, and the settlement of Camp Clarke grew up beside it. Bridgeport took its name from the bridge. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
