Description

The state historical marker “Battle Creek” stands in a pull-out on the west side of NE 121, 1.1 miles south of US 275, near Battle Creek. It tells how on July 12, 1859, territorial militia and U.S. Dragoons under Gen. John M. Thayer prepared to attack a Pawnee village here; the Pawnee surrendered at once, ending the Pawnee War without bloodshed, yet the creek was named Battle Creek.
