Point of Rocks isn't a town at all — it's a rock formation and historic landmark in the Lodgepole Creek valley, roughly fifteen miles west of Sidney between Sidney and Potter.
Archaeological work at the site has documented two distinct prehistoric occupations: evidence of the Upper Republican culture from roughly 1100-1400 AD, and later evidence of Dismal River/Plains Apache culture from around 1700 AD. The present-day Point of Rocks Motel & RV Park, at 8175 US-30 in nearby Potter, carries the landmark's name, reflecting its long-standing role as a waypoint along this stretch of the Lodgepole Creek corridor.
