Colton is a small unincorporated community in Cheyenne County, named for Francis Colton, a Union Pacific ticket agent, with a post office that served the area from 1887 to 1901.
Like several of its unincorporated neighbors, Colton has left a light historical footprint — no population figures or detailed community accounts survive beyond its postal history and railroad-agent namesake. It stands as one of several small Union Pacific-era waypoints that dotted Cheyenne County's rail corridor in the late 19th century.
