About Phebe
Phebe was a rural post office and store in the extreme southeastern part of Perkins County, about 12 miles southeast of Elsie. Its exact site is not known.
History
Phebe was named for Mrs. Phoebe Jack, its first postmistress, who later lived at Evans, Colorado. The 1890–91 state gazetteer described it as a post office in the extreme southeastern part of Perkins County, 12 miles southeast of Elsie, with John F. Jack's general merchandise and hardware store, N. F. Jack as postmaster, two blacksmiths, a wagonmaker, a justice of the peace and a dressmaker. Five Union veterans were counted there in the 1890 census. Phebe still appears on the 1912 county map; when its post office closed is not known.
