About Pebble
Pebble is a former village on Pebble Creek in Pebble Township, Dodge County, about a mile west of Scribner. Nothing of the village remains; the township and the creek keep the name.
History
Pebble Creek is said to take its name from the pebbles at a ford crossed by the volunteer companies in the 1859 Pawnee War. A grist mill was built on the creek in 1869, and Pebble was surveyed and platted in 1870, in section 36 of what became Pebble Township. A paper town called Galena had been proposed nearby in 1858–59 but never built.
The Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad laid out Scribner just to the east the same year, and Pebble could not compete. Its Congregational church, organized on December 28, 1871, moved to Scribner in 1876, and the village faded.
