About DeBolt

DeBolt was a railroad village and post office, now within north Omaha, centered near N. 60th and Girard streets about 6 miles northwest of downtown. Sorensen Parkway passes the site.

History

The village was named for George M. DeBolt (1845–1914), a former Union Pacific employee who came in 1869. DeBolt Station opened about 1888 on the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley (Chicago & North Western) line between Arlington and Omaha, with a connection to the "Omaha Road"; in 1887 the place was advertised as 3 miles west of Fort Omaha and 2 miles north of Benson. The post office ran from 1892 to 1899.

The station closed in 1926, and the line was abandoned in stages from 1971 to 1977. Omaha had annexed the area by the 1950s. The street grid survives, along with Springville School (Omaha Public Schools; new building 2007) and the Springwell Danish Cemetery, 6326 Hartman Ave., opened in 1889, about a mile south. There is no marker.
