About Buda
Buda is an unincorporated community on the Union Pacific about 5 miles east of Kearney, marked by grain bins and elevators.
History
The railroad opened a station here in 1866 called Kearney, which handled freight and mail for Fort Kearny across the Platte. When Kearney Junction grew up 5 miles west, the station was renamed Shelby in the 1870s (sources give 1872 or 1876), and in 1878 it became Buda, after the old Hungarian capital. In 1890 it had about 25 people.
