History
Leonard C. Baker established a post office on November 24, 1891, at first on the Dakota side of the line; it was briefly called New Baker in 1895 and was moved 1¼ miles south in 1896 to be in Nebraska. Baker had stores, churches and other businesses, but the post office closed in 1906 and the town ceased by 1916. By 1931 only the Catholic and Lutheran churches, a baseball diamond, and the Baker and Old Settlers' cemeteries remained. It was named for Leonard C. Baker, who established the post office.
