About Elyria

Elyria is a village of 50 people (2020) in the North Loup valley of northern Valley County, at about 2,103 feet on NE 11 and the Loup Rivers Scenic Byway, about 7 miles northwest of Ord and 10 miles southeast of Burwell. History

Elyria was founded in 1888, when the railroad was extended up the valley from Ord. It was first called Eldon, but Nebraska already had an Eldon, and the name was changed to Elyria. The village has stayed small; it counted 89 people in 1960 and about 50 since 2000. West of town is the Josef and Anna Beran Bruha House, a private home on the National Register.
