Winside is a village in Wayne County in northeast Nebraska, with 381 residents at the 2020 census, down from 427 in 2010. It covers about a quarter of a square mile, which makes it densely built for its size.
The village owes both its existence and its name to a railroad decision. An earlier settlement called Northside stood roughly three miles to the southwest. In 1882 the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad built a line running south from Wayne toward Norfolk, and when the depot went to the newer site rather than to Northside, the outcome was written into the name of the town that won. Winside was platted in 1886 as the railroad reached it.
The village sits on the rolling farm country between Wayne and Norfolk. Households here averaged 2.43 people at the 2010 count, and the median age was 37.6 years. County business goes through the county seat at Wayne.
