About Spiker
Spiker is a ghost town in the hills of northwestern Washington County, about 7 miles southwest of Herman and 11 miles west-northwest of Blair. The site is farmland, and no buildings are known to remain.
History
The Spiker General Store opened about 1890, and a post office ran there from June 6, 1890, to May 23, 1902. The place was probably named for settler Samuel R. Spiker. The store carried on for decades after the post office closed, but a fire in the late 1930s ended the settlement, and it was abandoned soon after.
