About Orum
Orum is a rural crossroads in central Washington County, about 8 miles west of Blair and 6 miles northwest of Kennard. Immanuel Lutheran Church, 19862 County Road 20, and the Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery stand about a mile west-northwest.
History
The Orum post office ran from June 30, 1890, to March 23, 1904, and was named for Robert Orum. In 1921 Orum had a country store and a shop or two serving the farms around it; Lincoln precinct counted 856 people in 1890.
Danish families settled much of this district. The congregation that became Immanuel Lutheran began as St. Paul's Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church, and its cemetery, on land given by Niels Andersen, holds about 540 graves.
