About Pleasant Dale
Pleasant Dale is a village in Seward County, Nebraska, in the Middle Creek valley, and part of the Lincoln metropolitan statistical area. The 2020 census recorded 218 residents, up from 205 in 2010; the 2000 count was 245. The village covers 0.11 square miles. It stands on Highway 103, about three miles south of Interstate 80 at mile marker 388.
History
Accounts of the village's beginnings differ. Some state that Pleasant Dale was laid out in 1883 and took its name from its setting in the Middle Creek valley. The University of Nebraska community history files date the settlement to 1871, when a post office was opened by postmaster James Iler, who had wanted the name Spiritdale; those files credit the name Pleasant Dale to J. H. Culver of Milford. The village's own account states that Pleasant Dale was incorporated in 1882. The Atchison and Nebraska Railroad reached the town in September 1879. After a derailment in 1897 the track was relocated in 1906 and 1907, which moved the depot and the elevators from the north side of town to the south.
