About Leshara
Leshara is a village in Saunders County. The 2020 census counted 108 residents. The village covers about 0.07 square miles and sits 1,170 feet above sea level. Valley is about four miles east, Yutan about six miles south, Fremont about seven miles north and Wahoo about twelve miles south-west.
History
The town dates to 1905, when the Great Northern Railway put a station here. In early October of that year the S. C. and W. Townsite Company bought 50 acres of land from Joseph Lammel to build the town on, and commercial and residential lots went on sale. The first business was a lumberyard run by the Zaugg brothers of Yutan. The post office opened in 1906 and closed in 1971.
The name
Leshara is named for Petalesharo, a chief of the Skidi Pawnee who lived from 1797 to 1832 and was in this area during the nineteenth century. The surrounding township carries the same name.
