About Ough
Ough is a former post office and store on the divide in northern Dundy County, about 19 miles north of Benkelman and a few miles west of NE 61. Its cemetery remains; the location is approximate.
History
John C. Ough and his brothers settled on the divide north of the Republican, and a post office named for them opened on February 13, 1886, with John Ough as postmaster, in a store on the divide. In 1890 the gazetteer described Ough as a post office 20 miles north of Benkelman with about 25 people, the most it ever had.
Ough faded after the railroad went to Imperial and as better roads let farmers reach larger towns. The post office closed on January 31, 1912. Ough Cemetery remains.
