The History Nebraska marker “Westerville 1880–1980,” on Main Street west of Hancock Street in Westerville, tells of Custer County’s first town: its first frame church, newspaper, doctor, lawyer and banker, the first two county fairs in 1881 and 1882, and its decline after it lost the county seat and the railroad passed it by in 1886.
