Bert and Edna Maxfield built the Wauneta Roller Mills at 112 N. Arapahoe Ave., Wauneta, in 1925, after the earlier water-powered mill at the Wauneta Falls burned. It was the town's third mill: a 50-barrel mill first driven by a 25-horsepower diesel engine and electrified in the 1930s, later adding formula feeds and a pellet mill. The mill, the Maxfields' 1929 bungalow and a shop were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Rogan and Ashley Einspahr bought the mill in 2012 and sold "Wauneta's Best" flour as the state's last family-run roller mill until production paused in May 2022. It is private; view from the street.
