Trenton Village Office is the municipal office for Trenton, Nebraska, at 402 Main Street. Trenton is the county seat of Hitchcock County, population 516. Platted 1885 when the railroad reached the area and named after Trenton, New Jersey. The county seat moved here from Culbertson because of Trenton's central location and rail access. The village supports a public library and a local museum. Trenton Dam and Swanson Reservoir State Recreation Area, on the Republican River, are about 2.5 miles west. The Massacre Canyon site, commemorating an 1873 battle between Pawnee and Lakota, is a landmark associated with the community.
